My Breast Cancer Journey

One of the best pieces of advice that I received when I was newly diagnosed was to keep a diary. If you are newly diagnosed it is one of the best things you can do if you want to go back and remember any particular time in your journey. Keep your documents and results because you never know when you might need them. I actually have a box full and that is only from my first diagnosis. I would love you to have a read of my book, available as an e-reader on amazon. It's also listed as a kindle unlimited so you can read it for free.

Sneak Peak- Here is a small piece to read from my book

We lost our Mum on Friday, 7th December, 2012. In the same hospital that we lost our sister, Annette. The pain and grief I felt that day is unimaginable. My Mum fought hard to stay, she didn’t want to leave us. I felt alone and lost, the day my mum passed away. My heart remains broken. Less than two months later I found my breast lump and was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. My doctors have told me that it was likely that I had my lump when my Mum passed. It is also possible that the stress of losing Mum caused my breast cancer. My reaction to my diagnosis was always, why did I have to get it now? , why couldn’t I have been given more time to grieve? I believe things happen for a reason and I think now that maybe getting breast cancer was the only way I was able to get through the loss of my mum.

Fighting the storm is my journey through breast cancer. From finding my lump, diagnosis, surgery, chemo, radiotherapy, tamoxifen and all the not so wonderful side effects. In February, 2013 I found a lump in my right breast. I was 42 years old. By the end of February I had been diagnosed with breast cancer and had surgery to remove the lump (partial mastectomy) and lymph nodes. My cancer was removed.
